NFASP’s advocacy campaign awarded £64,000 from Grants for the arts

The NFASP has been awarded £64,000 from Arts Council England’s Grants for the arts funding programme to support a two-year, national affordable studios advocacy programme.

The NFASP’s programme - Artists’ studios: investing in creative communities - will be aimed at local authority, housing and private sector developers, and at regeneration and development agencies. This campaign will work to raise the profile of affordable studios, showcase new models and stimulate the growth and sustainability of the studios sector for the benefit of both artists and audiences for the visual arts.

The programme will build on the new opportunities that are emerging, where studio providers are working in partnership with commercial and social housing providers in developing mixed-use schemes that incorporate affordable studios.

We will develop guidance and case studies, including an outline studios specification and guidance on work/live studios. We will also consolidate advocacy work already undertaken in the London region, which will help to spread the benefit across the whole country.

The campaign will involve the expertise of a specialist PR company to help us get our message across to the right people and studios ‘champions’ from across the country, who will assist with strategic advocacy at a regional level.

The two-year campaign will provide a valuable legacy of resources, expertise, contacts and studios champions, which will enable NFASP to sustain its advocacy work for the affordable artists' studios sector at a high level, once the two-year programme is concluded.

The project starts in January 2010 and will run to December 2011.

Arts Council England’s Grants for the arts are for activities carried out over a set period and which engage people in England in arts activities, and help artists and arts organisations in England carry out their work. Grants for the arts is funded by the National Lottery.
