News in brief: Trustee recruitment • Charity tax guidance update

How to recruit trustees for voluntary and community organisations • Update on the guidance for tax exemptions for charities

Trustee Recruitment:

A new resource has been created to help small voluntary and community organisations find, recruit, induct and keep trustees.

Trustee recruitment can be challenging for small organisations that have limited resources.

This resource has been produced by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) in partnership with the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA), Community Matters and the Community Sector Coalition (CSC).

'Trustee recruitment' also refers to the recruitment of governing body members, management committee members, members of the committee, council members, and executive committee members.

To read the resource online, go to the NCVO website at: www.ncvo-vol.org.uk

Tax Implications for Charities:

The HM Revenue and Customs 'Tax exemptions for charities' guidance has been updated, with revised statutory references for the tax exemptions relating to charitable trusts and charitable companies. Go to:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/guidance-notes/annex1/annex_i.htm

Also, the Charity Finance Directors' Group has produced a comprehensive guide on 'The Tax Implications of Charity Trading' which can be downloaded from their Good Practice publications page at: www.cfdg.org.uk/cfdg/good_practice_publications.asp
